- Story Text: Colombian superstar J Balvin is releasing his new album "Colores" (colors) in the midst of the coronavirus health crisis. Speaking from his home in Medellin, Colombia, the reggaeton artist said he hoped "Colores" would provide some 'happiness' and 'light" for his fans as the world grapples with the outbreak of the deadly virus.
"I wanted to make an impact of happiness and light and I took off my competitive gloves because these are not the normal conditions to do publicity or promote an album, but I know people will feel good with 'Colores'," he said.
Asked if he was under quarantine himself, J Balvin only responded that he was treating this pandemic with "respect" and "calmness."
On the ten-track colores, Balvin named each song after a color and kept collaborations down to a minimum as he wanted fans to really connect with him as an artist.
"It's an audio-visual concept. Each song has its own video and each video is an incredible world of its own. We wanted to elevate the quality of the videos, make videos that make a difference and give color to the world, happiness, joy, hope," he said.
"In a time when everyone is doing collaborations ... I wanted to make an album of J Balvin, with no collaborations and I feel great, I feel very comfortable with that, because ultimately if people connect, I wanted to them to connect with me," he added.
With the coronavirus resulting in the cancellation of music festivals and concerts and putting millions of people on lockdown, J Balvin is hopeful that the world and the music industry will get through the crisis.
"The music industry will continue to grow, because music is one of those things to which people can connect. Concerts obviously have been canceled around the world, thank God I don't have a tour scheduled this year, but I believe that the world will be a better place when this situation is over," he said.
Considered "Reggaeton's Global Ambassador," J Balvin is one of the top streaming music artist in the world.
J Balvin was also the first Reggaeton artist to perform on the main stage at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, the EDM festival Tomorrowland and the first-ever Latin artist to Headline at Lollapalooza.
The album, "Colores," is out now.
