- Story Text: Some New Yorkers under a 'stay-at-home' order came out of lockdown to Central Park on Tuesday (March 24) to get fresh air at around 7:30 in the morning.
Exercisers seemed to obey social distancing rules, doing solitary activities, such as running and biking, as advised by authorities to help stop the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19, in a city that has quickly become a hot spot for the highly infectious disease.
According to the New York City Health Department, there have been over 13,000 cases of coronavirus in New York, which has a population of 8.6 million.
Researches say, the density of the city has made it the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States.
The White House estimates that nearly 1 in 1,000 people in the region have contracted the virus.
The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that the United States could become the global epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic.
