- Story Text: Locals and tourists visited a popular mud festival in the South Korean coastal city of Boryeong, located about 190km (120 miles) south-west of Seoul.
People flocked to get messy at the city's 18th annual Mud Festival, which started on Friday (July 17) and last year attracted over 3.2 million people, according to event organisers.
Some areas of the festival site allowed revelers to play in an abundance of grayish goo at mud wrestling pits, mud prisons and in mud baths.
"I really enjoyed playing a slide at the mud festival. It was also fun to play the 'Catch the Dragon's Tail' game with total strangers, but it was fun to get along together. I have had a great time having some delicious food and hanging out with foreigners," said 22-year-old Yun Eun-young.
"I came out here to a mud festival to have a good time with good people. The best part is everybody is having fun. It is a bit wild but we are from Vegas. I know how to do party and Korea does it good," said 33-year-old Derek Curtis from the United States.
The Mayor of Boryeong, Kim Dong-il hoped the festival would go global.
"This is a beautiful and healthy festival where people from all around the world can come together. We will develop this mud festival better and definitely make it a global festival," said Mayor Kim Dong-il.
The festival will continue until July 26. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
