- Story Text: Comedian Amy Schumer pens a comedic tale of love, sports and family in her first outing as a screenwriter for "Trainwreck."
As she walked down the red carpet at the film's world premiere on Wednesday (July 14) night in New York, she admitted it's all still unbelievable.
"It's been surreal ever since even meeting with Judd for the first time, just a general meeting with him. It's all been very surreal," said Schumer.
In the film, Schumer's character, who plays a magazine writer, finds herself falling in love with the subject of a profile piece she is writing, after living a life of promiscuity. Comedy ensues as she learns how to adapt to romance and balance her family life.
"I think this movie is kind of a love letter to my sister and the way that I realize that I was hurting myself and being destructive was by falling in love," said Schumer.
Actress Tilda Swinton is almost unrecognizable in the movie as Schumer's boss.
"The magazine that Amy's character works at in the film is this insane magazine. Although it's not that much more insane then a lot of the magazines being sold around the corner. And obviously the woman who founded this magazine had to be pretty kind of out there. So we started thinking about what she would be like. And I wanted to be really - I wanted to do something different, so I wanted for start, to have a sort of tandoori tan, I think that was the start," said Swinton who added she is a fan of the movie after seeing it before the premiere.
A mix of "Saturday Night Live" alumi make up the cast including Vanessa Bayer, who plays Schumer's co-worker, Tim Meadows, and Bill Hader who plays her love interest and a sports doctor.
"She just wrote a wonderful script and she was so open to changing things and improvising. But she wrote a wonderful, wonderful script," said Hader.
Members of the NBA are well represented, with LeBron James playing Hader's close friend and Amar'e Stoudemire portraying a patient. Former tennis pro Chris Evert and WWE star John Cena also have appearances in the film, although Cena said he isn't quitting his day job.
"I'll get out of the ring when it's time to get out of the ring, I feel really good right now. I love my life in the WWE but this is a perfect example of when an opportunity comes around you make it work and you do what you need to do. And if more opportunities come around then I'll find a way to make it work," said the wrestler.
The film was co-produced and director by Judd Apatow who said he enjoyed guiding Schumer.
"It's really fun for me because I like the moment of discovery and you know, it's fun for me to help them try to crack the code of how they would work as a lead in a movie."
