- Story Text: US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew arrived in Berlin on Thursday (July 16) to hold talks with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on the ongoing situation in Greece.
Lew arrived in Berlin after a meeting in Frankfurt with European Central Bank President Mario Draghi and will then travel to France to hold talks with Finance Minister Michel Sapin before returning to Washington.
Schaeuble and Lew's meeting takes place as the European Central Bank's governing council is expected to ease its funding squeeze on shuttered Greek banks after a nearly three weeks' closure.
Greece approved a stringent bailout program on Wednesday (July 15), thanks to the votes of the pro-European opposition, and European finance ministers are to hold a conference call on Thursday morning to agree on a plan for 7 billion euros in bridging funds to enable to Southern European country to meet its immediate debt service needs and avoid defaulting on the ECB next Monday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
