- Story Text: Greek authorities said on Friday (April 10) a Roma settlement in a neighbourhood in the city of Larissa in central Greece had been quarantined after 20 coronavirus cases were found in the community, estimated to have about 3,000 residents.
Crisis Management Minister Nikos Chardalias and special government advisor Professor Sotiris Tsiodras visited the city early on Friday to discuss measures with local authorities. Chardalias said at least 200 tests had been carried out in the area, and the 20 positive cases were being quarantined at a separate location.
The Roma population in Greece is estimated at close to 300,000.
As of Friday Greece had 2,011 coronavirus cases and 90 deaths. Authorities also extended a lockdown on schools on Friday until May 10. Schools had closed on March 10.
