- Story Text: French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Tuesday (July 14) the historic nuclear deal reached with Iran will allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to carry out verifications on nuclear sites in Iran.
"I spoke with the International Atomic Energy Agency general director because it is that agency which is in charge of making verifications and I asked him the question on trust, the one you just asked me. Will the texts that we are signing allow you, the agency, to control both sites and people in order to be sure that nothing is hidden from us. He said yes," Fabius told a news conference in Vienna.
"Iran has committed to comply to the additional protocol to the non-proliferation treaty and, in that frame, it is of course forbidden for Iran to access to the atomic weapon," he added.
Under the deal, sanctions imposed by the United States, European Union and United Nations will be lifted in return for Iran agreeing long-term curbs on a nuclear programme that the West has suspected was aimed at creating a nuclear bomb. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
