- Story Text: Mexican director Guillermo del Toro hit the red carpet at Comic-Con on Saturday (July 11) to talk about his upcoming film "Crimson Peak."
"I tried to make a lavish, gorgeous movie. I think it is the most beautiful movie I have made and I tried to make it so that you have exquisite sets, exquisite wardrobes, beautiful camera moves, great characters but at the end of the day the journey is half pleasant, half scary. And I think, it's a throwback to the lavish Hollywood productions of the past. I hope people agree with me and enjoy it," said del Toro.
"Crimson Peak" is a gothic thriller that takes place in a crumbling English mansion. The film follows a young author named Edith Cushing, played by Mia Wasikowska shortly after her marriage to Sir Thomas Sharpe, played by Tom Hiddleston. Cushing discovers that her new husband isn't quite who he appears to be and his house is not the welcoming home she expected.
Actress Jessica Chastain joined the cast as Sharpe's sister, Lucille Sharpe.
"This is the time where I am on the other side of it where I get to be in a film where I'm not the damsel in distress and that's kind of fun too," Chastain said of her role.
Like del Toro's previous work, "Crimson Peak" has qualifying markers of a horror film.
"I am like a novice horror movie person. No, but I definitely gained an appreciation of the genre through working with Guillermo, I read this forward to Frankenstein that he wrote and he's like a horror academic and sort of talks about why people are drawn to it and it was really interesting, it wasn't what I expected," said Wasikowska.
"Crimson Peak" is scheduled to hit theaters in October of this year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
