- Story Text: Members of Ukraine's right-wing group Right Sector rallied near the presidential administration building in Kiev on Saturday (July 11).
It came after a shootout in western Ukraine where armed men claiming to members of the paramilitary volunteer corps of the group opened fire against the security team of a local deputy and later police.
Right Sector members' demands at the protest were to stop the persecution of their members.
"We (Right Sector) don't need anything at all for ourselves, we want justice and for people to live normally. But when we try to stop flows of contraband (smuggling) and they start killing us then this is a question that should be addressed to the government, not to us," said Right Sector spokesman Artem Skoropadsky.
In a statement on the official website of Right Sector it said two members of its group had been killed and four wounded on Saturday.
Local reports of casualties vary.
Right Sector played a big role in Kiev street protests in 2014 that toppled former Moscow-backed president Viktor Yanukovich, setting off a confrontation with Russia and sparking the worst Russia-West crisis since the end of the Cold War. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
