  • Story Text: European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker met members of Greece's opposition party To Potami on Friday (July 10).
    The meeting is the second in a series of meetings with Greek opposition parties the Commission says aims at hearing their view on the current situation in Greece.
    On Thursday, Juncker met with New Democracy party members Dora Bakoyannis and Kostis Chatzidakis.
    To Potami party members Stavros Theodorakis, Haris Theoharis and Christina Tachiaou met the EU chief at the Commission's headquarters in Brussels.
    Friday's meeting came only a few hours after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras submitted new proposals including tax hikes and pension reforms to eurozone authorities in a bid to secure agreement at the weekend on a third bailout for his country.
    With its banks closed, cash withdrawals rationed and the economy in freefall, Greece has never been closer to a state bankruptcy that would probably force it to leave the euro and print an alternative currency.
