- Story Text: Bucharest residents avoided the heat in any possible way after temperatures in the city exceeded 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday (July 9).
Water sprinklers were set up on the streets, providing relief from scorching heat, even just for a while.
Children in the city centre enjoyed a dip in a fountain and invited everyone else to join in.
Any form of finding shade provided some relief, although some preferred to soak up the rays.
Romanian authorities declared "Code Yellow" for 19 counties, as temperatures reached 38 degrees Celsius in the shade.
According to the National Weather Administration, the Arad and Bihor counties experienced maximum temperatures of 38-39 degrees Celsius, which are very close to the absolute temperature highs of the region.
In Bucharest, ambulances were called over 200 times in last 48 hours for heat-related ailments with many people collapsed on the street. Romania also experienced country-wide delays in train traffic. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
