  • Story Text: Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero was presented by his new club, Flamengo, in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday (July 7) as the top goal scorer prepares to settle in with his new team.
    Guerrero arrived to Rio on Monday (July 6) and practised for the first time with Flamengo on Tuesday.
    The striker will travel with the team to Porto Alegre where they will face Internacional on Wednesday (July 8).
    Guerrero started his career at Alianza Lima, coming up through their youth ranks before moving to Germany to play for Bayern Munich and Hamburg.
    In 2012 he moved back to South America to join Brazilian giants Corinthians for whom he played before signing with Flamengo.
    "I'm happy to join such an important and promising club. I am very proud to be representing Flamengo. And I'm going to give it my all so we can improve on the things we need to improve and accomplish something important this year which I think will make all the Flamengo fans happy," Guerrero said.
    He led Peru to a third-place finish in the Copa America tournament on July 3 scoring a goal to beat Paraguay 2-0 in the consolation match. Peru also finished third in the 2011 tournament.
    Guerrero shared top-scorer honours at the Copa alongside Chile's Eduardo Vargas. Both had four goals.
    It was the second consecutive time Guerrero was crowned top scorer of the South American championship after achieving the same feat in 2011.
    Now with the Copa over, Guerrero said he was looking forward to suiting up with Flamengo after a couple days rest at home in Peru.
    "I am eager for my debut at a home game, playing at the Maracana. And I am going to be well-prepared. I just got here ( in Rio) yesterday. I was in my country (Peru). After the Copa (America) I had two days off to rest and spend a little time with my family, my parents. And now I have to prepare myself and focus because I want to give my best to the team," Guerrero said.
    Guerrero and Flamengo will face his old club, Corinthians, at the historic Maracana stadium in Rio on July 12.
