  • Story Text: Former Beatle Ringo Starr celebrated his 75th birthday with family, friends and fans on Tuesday (July 7) asking everyone to join in a global demonstration of peace and love through social media platforms.
    The "Peace and Love" tradition started ten years ago when Starr was asked a simple question during an interview.
    "Well, it's come a long way. As you know we did start this ten years ago. In Chicago was the first one and we've been to New York and we've done several times in LA and we did it in Hamburg. So, it's sort of international now. Depends, usually I'm touring in the summer so where ever I am on my birthday that's where we do it. And it's growing by the response I get. I was asked the question, 'what would you like for your birthday' and I said, well it would be great if everybody in the world could say peace and love, peace and love at noon on July the 7th. So, people are doing it. I am blessed," said Starr.
    Today he continues that tradition by hosting a salute to "Peace and Love," which is open to the public, and asking his fans to use the hashtag #PeaceandLove at noon, local time.
    Beside the public celebration, Starr claims he celebrates his birthday just like any other person would.
    "Well the birthday sort of starts at 2 o'clock, you know, after this. It is for my birthday. No, I wake up it's my birthday, I love birthdays and I'm searching for the gifts and it's sort of a good day. We have a very nice morning, which is pretty quiet and then we get in the car and come here and that's how we do it and we'll have a dinner tonight. It's what most people do actually. I know some people think well, what does he do for his birthday, grow wings and fly? I don't," said Starr.
    Some Hollywood stars were on hand to help Starr light the candles on his cake, including musician and producer Joe Walsh and film director David Lynch.
