- Story Text: The Netherlands' prime minister, Mark Rutte, said on Monday (July 6) that Greece will have to accept deep reforms if it wants to remain in the eurozone.
In a debate in parliament in the wake of Greece's "No" vote on the terms of a bailout package from its creditors, Rutte said his government was unwilling to give any new funding to Greece unless it committed to reform.
"Now the [Greek] government stands at a crossroads: they have to make a decision tonight on what they are going to do tomorrow - if they are coming with serious proposal to the Eurogroup and Eurozone summit or not. That is really what is going on now," he said.
"It's what I said before and what everyone is saying: they have to accept tough measures, otherwise it all stops and I don't know how we can help them to remain in Eurozone. It's as simple as that," Rutte added.
"If things stay the way they are, then we're at an impasse," he continued to say. "If tomorrow they don't seem to be prepared to seriously rethink about it, then I don't know how we can get out of the deadlock."
Rutte said that if the Greeks went to Brussels on Tuesday (July 7) demanding changes because they felt supported by the "No" vote and refused reforms, "then I think it is over". - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
