- Story Text: French President Francois Hollande said on Friday (July 3) he wishes to see better ties and development with the African nation of Angola during the middle leg of his three country Africa tour.
"The road map is already full, I will now meet President Dos Santos but I know that beyond the political will and the trajectories we have decided on, the partnership that links us with Angola, all will depend on the companies. They are in charge of proposing services, technologies, useful productions in everyone's interest because what we want to do is ensure development, activity, employment and growth in Angola and in France in the long term and in mutual respect, with independence and with the will to serve the people," Hollande said, shortly before meeting his counterpart.
Angola President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos said his country needed better trade ties in regards to fuel.
"Regarding the economic plan, we want to highlight the ongoing relationship between companies from the two countries, particularly in the petroleum sector in which the volume of cooperation could increase further with mutual benefits if new agreements are liberated between Sonangol and Total," he said at a joint news conference with Hollande.
Hollande said he discussed several crises in Africa with his counterpart.
"I have expressed my concern regarding the situation in Burundi, and the situations expected throughout other African countries in the next few months. Together with Dos Santos´s government we have decided to work together to help these countries to find solutions based on peace and dialogue as soon as possible."
Burundi has been locked in its worst political crisis since its civil war ended a decade ago, with protests erupting in late April against President Pierre Nkurunziza's bid to seek a third term in office. Dozens have been killed.
The opposition boycotted the parliamentary election on Monday. A presidential vote is scheduled for July 15 and the UN and others have called for it to be postponed. Opponents say the president's attempt to stand again violates the constitution. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
