- Story Text: Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said on Wednesday (July 22) that his government will fight and defeat extremists not just in his country but in the region at large.
"We will win because we have the support of the Nigerian people, who voted us into office to do things differently in order to skew them form harm and provide for their prosperity and well being. We will win because the United States and indeed the international community has pledged to stand with us in solidarity," Buhari said in Washington D.C., during a speech he delivered at the United States Institute of Peace think tank.
Buhari added that economic property and sustainability in Nigeria is key to defeating Boko Haram.
"As we ramp up our efforts to defeat Boko Haram, we know that winning this battle, sustainability, will require that we expand economic opportunities and create jobs for our teen and young population," Buhari said.
Burahi pledged to fight corruption which he saw as a full time job essential to ensure "public institutions deliver substance in a timely and efficient manner." Buhari was inaugurated on May 29 after being elected on promises to fight corruption. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
