- Story Text: Fans braved the sweltering heat in Vienna on Thursday (July 23rd) to give a warm welcome to actor Tom Cruise, who will be celebrating the world premiere of Mission Impossible V there later today.
Despite temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, fans waited for hours outside the Ritz Carlton hotel where Cruise is staying in oder to try and get a glimpse of the actor.
The latest Mission Impossible film, 'Rogue Nation' features Vienna, with the famous Opera House being an important venue in the story.
Getting to the opera, where the premiere is taking place on Thursday, was a mission in itself, as roads around it were closed for two days around the event as a safety precaution. In the film however the safety precautions around the opera aren't enough to stop Tom Cruise, as agent Ethan Hunt, from making a spectacular appearance.
In the film Ethan Hunt continues his quest to crack the ominous terror organization, the 'Syndicate', despite the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) being officially disbanded and Hunt being a wanted man by the CIA as well as the Syndicate itself.
To his aid come British actor Simon Pegg (Benji) and Jeremy Renner (William Brandt) and Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa - but can the beautifully enigmatic agent really be trusted?
One thing is for certain, the popularity of the lead actor with the public - fans waited for hours outside the Ritz Carlton Hotel to see Cruise.
US tourist Sean Hawkins had heard there was a Tom Cruise premiere in town and had brought his sister along to see if they could see him.
"Well it is just a bit unrealistic at the moment, because it is all being… Vienna doesn't have something like this normally, but it's something to look forward to. And I have really enjoyed the films until now," he said.
Local man Michael Kortseck had been waiting for four hours to see the actor and said he was also going to try and see him at the premiere.
"It is the 4th hour but you are excited and hope that you might see him. And it is enjoyable being part of all this with the premiere, and that it is in your home town, we should be proud of it."
Kati, Jule and Anthea were making the most of the school holidays to spend the day Cruise-spotting, and they weren't going to give in until they saw him.
"It is our thing really, as soon as a celebrity is in town we go and try to see them, mostly we manage to, we haven't managed with Tom yet, but we will see, it will be fine, if not we will go to the airport tomorrow," Kati said laughing. Hopefully it isn't an impossible mission for the young Austrian. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
