- Story Text: Super model Cara Delevingne has stepped off the catwalk and on to the big screen for the new film "Paper Towns."
"I wanted to act ever since I was a child. It's one of my biggest dreams. If you could imagine that living your dream is very emotional really, I'm very happy," said Delevingne who cried when she learned she earned the role.
The model and the cast of the film hit the red carpet in New York on Tuesday (July 21) to celebrate their film's opening and greet fans.
Delevingne is known as much for her modeling career as she is for her silly antics, but said her acting career is no joke.
"I don't want anyone to ever think that this is like, a fluke or I got this because of my media - social media przesence. For me, if I got this part or if I'm acting because of what I do on social media, I don't want to do it," explained Delevingne who will also appear in upcoming DC Comics film "Suicide Squad."
On the red carpet director Jake Schreier vouched for her acting chops.
"We saw a lot of amazing actresses for the part and it just felt like when we did the chemistry read with her, it just felt like we were watching a very lived in true version of Margo. It almost didn't feel like acting in a way, it just felt like it was the right fit."
When asked what type of role she would like to tackle next, the Brit said she is hoping for something based in reality.
"I would love to play someone like Gloria Steinem or a role like, you know, the first formula one driver like who is a female, something like that. Something maybe in the future but set in the past."
"Paper Towns," adapted from "The Fault in Our Stars" author John Green's book of the same name, tells the story of teen love, comedy and adventure.
Delevingne portrays Margo who takes her neighbor, Quentin, played by Nat Wolff, on an all-night escapade filled with fun and pranks. A day later Margo goes missing, only leaving clues for Quentin, which lead him and his friends on a journey full of life lessons.
However, Wolff wants movie-goers to know the film has it's lighter moments.
"I think there are like two major themes and it's like, you know the friendship between the three friends obviously and also not putting girls on a pedestal. But when I see the movie the thing that I also think about is that it's really fun. And sometimes when I talk about it I feel like I get a little too serious or something, but it is a really fun movie," said Wolff.
The film is packed with young actors including Halston Sage, Justice Smith and Jaz Sinclair.
"It's a dream, it's a dream come true. I mean this is my first film that I've done. And I like - first of all it's a script that I love, people that I love and to have such loyal excited fans like right off the bat, I could not ask for anything better," said Sinclair.
Delevingne was supported by her sister Poppy Delevingne and fellow supermodels Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss.
