- Story Text: The Colours of Ostrava festival attracted music fans to an abandoned mining complex for performances by Kasabian, St. Vincent, Bjork and Rudimental, among others.
The Vitkovice mining complex, where the festival is held, is a European heritage protected site where mines and iron and steel works were located until they were closed down in the nineties.
"Five, six years ago this area was changing from an industrial zone into a cultural site. Immediately after it became possible to organize a music festival here we did it, because this is a marvellous place with lot of panoramas and it is also a huge area which enables us to bring big bands and much more viewers," organiser Jiri Sedlak said.
This is the 14th edition of the Colours of Ostrava festival and the fourth at Vitkovice, with star names performing on the main stage.
"Kasabian were just superb, there is nothing more to say. They are a great band, they have great songs - absolutely superb," attendee Marek Svoboda said.
Apart from the stars, smaller bands performed across ten stages from Thursday (July 16) to Sunday (July 19), winning them exposure to new fans.
" Kasabian were just superb, there is nothing more to say. They are a great band, they have great songs - absolutely superb," one festivalgoer from Ostrava, Michaela, said.
Fans from all over Europe come to the festival, which gained popularity beyond the Czech Republic and neighbouring Slovakia and Poland.
"I am here for the second time and I think it's great, frankly, it's fantastic. I love the groups who are playing. Last year it was already great and I feel like this year it's even better," student Hugo from Paris said.
Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic, lying in the heart of Europe. Located close to the Polish border, it is also the administrative centre for the Moravian-Silesian Region, still known for its mining and steel industries. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
