- Story Text: A 29 year-old former Spanish soldier accused of distributing propaganda and recruiting for the Islamic State group arrived in Spain's High Court in the Spanish capital on Friday (July 24).
The man, named in Spanish media as David Mohammed Mohammed, was arrested in the Spanish North African enclave of Melilla on Wednesday (July 22), with the cooperation of Moroccan authorities, the Spanish Interior Ministry said.
Spanish media reported that interior ministry sources had said Mohammed served in the Spanish army until 2008, when he was dismissed for drug related issues.
He was arrested as part of a police operation against networks dedicated to capturing and sending girls and young women to Syria and Iraq, the ministry said.
The arrested man was then transferred from Melilla to Madrid to testify before the court.
Spain has arrested 49 people this year, including the man detained on Wednesday, over suspected Islamist militant activities. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
