- Story Text: Up and coming British band, Wolf Alice, who find themselves top of the midweek UK album charts spoke about playing at the 2015 Glastonbury Festival on Friday (June 26).
The foursome of Ellie Rowsell, Joff Oddie, Theo Ellis and Joel Amey played The Park Stage as a burst of rain fell down upon the crowd.
Speaking before the gig, guitarist Theo Ellis said, "Irrelevant of the weather we're going to be bringing as much sunshine coming out of our songs as humanly possible," and it looks like some of the group tried to live up to that billing by going crowdsurfing during their gig.
Before the Park Stage gig Rowsell also compared the experience to their performance at Festival last year, saying she would still feel some nerves, "I'd like to think so, but once you get up onstage and see the crowd you immediately get jelly legs all over again. I don't know, I think we're a little bit more confident having done it once before."
The band also spoke about their debut release, "My Love Is Cool", which came out this week and commented on how it might be a victory for smaller, independent labels if they can finish high in the charts.
"I mean it would be great if we could spread the word and as many people would get behind it because at the moment we're looking good in the charts and we're on an independent label so I think it'd be a good victory for us and the label and all of our work if it charted high. But, irrelevant of that, it's just the best thing in the world to have an album out, so we're overwhelmed," said Ellis.
The band also spoke on how they're looking forward to seeing Kanye West's headline performance on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday (June 27) and how Florence was a worthy replacement for The Foo Fighters, who were forced to cancel their appearance at the festival when their lead singer, Dave Grohl, broke his leg.
"Yeah, I'd have loved to have seen Foo Fighters and I think it's really sad that Dave broke his leg, but you know big up Florence, I think she deserves to be a headliner anyway."
"Yeah, this could be a new generation of headliner coming through for festivals. It's really exciting, you know?" added Amey.
The north London rock band, has won over music fans and critics alike with songs such as "Giant Peach" and "Bros".
The band originally formed in 2010 with lead singer Rowsell and guitarist Oddie. Bassist Ellis and drummer Amey joined in 2012.
Buzz for the band has built ever since with their name regularly mentioned on the radio, music blogs and in magazines but they have taken their time in releasing a completed album.
They put out two EPs in 2013 and 2014 and their debut album "My Love is Cool" came out on Monday (June 22). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
