- Story Text: Saudi-led coalition warplanes targeted military bases on Noqum Mountain overlooking the Yemeni capital on Monday (June 1) in a series of early morning air strikes.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties, but residents in nearby neighborhoods were seen fleeing the area.
The attacks came as Arab air strikes pounded Houthi militia positions in the north, centre and south of the country.
Sanaa residents reported the sounds of constant explosions and anti-aircraft fire on Monday.
An Arab alliance has been bombing the Houthi fighters for more than two months in a bid to restore Yemen's exiled president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, currently in exile in Saudi Arabia, to power.
The Sunni Muslim states are also concerned that the Shi'ite rebels are a proxy for the influence of their archrival Iran in impoverished Yemen.
The Houthis, who swept into Yemen's capital Sanaa in September and fanned out across the country, say they are winning a revolution against corrupt officials and hardline Sunni militants.
Nearly 2,000 people have been killed and over 8,000 wounded in the conflict since March 19, according to the United Nations. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
