Wearing red and white and displaying Canada's flag, fans gathered at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium.
FIFA Women's World Cup Canadian mascot, Shueme, a snowy owl, greeted fans.
"It's amazing. The hype around this and I've been watching the specials that have been going on and learning about the team has been practicing and growing for this moment. This is going to be awesome. This is cool. And I think almost every game is sold out. It's crazy," said Sarah, an Edmontonian.
Fellow Edmontonian Mercy said, "We are super excited. This is awesome. It's a great opportunity for us to come out and support Canada right in our hometown."
Chinese fans were also showing national pride and support for their home team.
"We are Chinese and we are international students. We want to do as much as we can for China, even just for cheering for them," said Yolanda.
Liguo said China would shut out the Canadian team. "Oh yeah 2-0, beat Canada!"
Last minute tickets were sold and about 50,000 fans are expected to fill the stadium.
"We're so excited. We think it's so exciting that so many people are coming out to be together and celebrate the same thing and thinking in one direction," said Edmontonian Tara.
12-year old Kiara was just excited for the sport.
"I really like soccer and I'm excited to see really good players."
Peter and Rita Accadia traveled from Calgary to support the Women's team.
"We're coming here from Calgary and we're glad to be here in Edmonton and we are looking forward to a nice, fine game with Canada winning," said Peter Accadia.
Rita added, "And we are supporting neighbors from Ontario, their daughter Melissa Tancredi, number 14, is playing out there today! Woo ho!"
