- Story Text: German police were out in force on Saturday (June 6), ahead of Sunday's (June 7) G7 summit in the Bavarian Alpine resort of Schloss Elmau.
Police are conducting security checks on vehicles and a mesh fence and security perimeter have been set up 16 kilometres around the venue to stop any unauthorised people nearing it.
Several demonstrations have taken place in the area in recent days and around 17,000 police have been brought in to beef up security.
Police expect around 10,000 people to take part in a large demonstration in nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday ahead of the two-day summit.
Heads of state and government of the Group of Seven industrialised nations will meet to discuss foreign, security and development policy.
According to the German government hosting the meeting, the leaders will also discuss climate and environmental protection, health issues, trade and supply chain standards, and the empowerment of women. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
