- Story Text: Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Dairi met his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo on Monday (June 8), a day after a tripartite meeting grouping Algeria, Italy and Egypt was held to discuss the latest developments in the Libyan situation.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said he had high hopes that the government would be able to reach a political solution to the crisis.
Libya has plunged into violence since mid-2014, due to an escalating power struggle between rival governments.
The internationally-recognised premier Abdullah al-Thinni has been working out of the east since losing the capital Tripoli in August last year to a rival faction.
"We're currently depending on the ability of the legitimate Libyan army and the legitimate government and the parliament to reach a political solution, in light of its popular support that was shown in parliamentary elections that were held last June," Shukri told a news conference.
Dairi said the Islamic State (IS) threat has become more severe over the past few months.
"The danger of IS is threatening us and our neighboring countries in a more dangerous way than it was a few months ago. So, Egypt's presence alongside us, reassures us back in Libya and it's something to be proud of," Dairi said.
Egypt intervened with air strikes on Islamic State targets in OPEC oil-producer Libya after the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians by IS in February.
