Russian town of Kumertau set up celebrations for its residents which included an attempt to create the world biggest helicopter model made of horsemeat.
The town, that lies between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains 1,500 kilometres (950 miles) east of Moscow, celebrated its anniversary on Saturday (June 6).
A model, created of horsemeat sausages as well as other delicatessen, was delivered to the town's main square on top of a truck. It had rotating blades which were proudly demonstrated to the fascinated crowd by a group of local chefs.
People were seen taking selfies with the model.
Life in Kumertau revolves around its main industrial hub - a helicopter-making plant. At the same time, various horsemeat delicatessen are typical for traditional cuisine of that part of Russia.
"Today's helicopter is made of horsemeat delicatessen. Our company produces horsemeat delicatessen. And the helicopter is made exclusively of our delicatessen produced from organic meat grown in our region," said Liliya Amineva, an entrepreneur who provided the meat.
The helicopter model was thoroughly measured by a group of experts which included experienced chefs from Russia and abroad - all supported by plenty of non-alcoholic cocktails.
"Today I've been invited to Kumertau to weigh the biggest helicopter (to be registered) as a record of Russia, as well as an alcohol-free cocktail which they made 110 litres of," Serbian chef Milan Stevanovic said.
Although the model, which was over 3,5 metres long and about 1,8 metres high weighing over 120 kilos, attracted a lot of attention from Kumertau residents, and got into a local book of records, no one was allowed to nibble the sausage off the helicopter after the record was set.
Local authorities said it was unsafe to feed the crowd with meat in an open public space in summer. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
