- Story Text: IOC president Thomas Bach on Tuesday (June 9) hailed the presentations by Almaty and Beijing as they bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Chinese and Kazakhstani teams briefed IOC members behind closed doors before both proclaimed they were hjappy with the way the process had gone.
Bach later told the media: "We have seen two bids which respect very much the sustainability of the Olympic Games, which look very much for the legacy of the Olympic Games and which respect very much that the organization of Olympic Games has to be affordable.
"It was a successful day for both candidates, and it was a successful day for Olympic agenda 2020, and it was a successful day for the IOC."
Beijing's bid chief, Liu Yandong, said Beijing's bid had filled her with confidence the Chinese capital would host the games.
The IOC will announce the winning city next month. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
