- Story Text: Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos met Chinese top leaders in Beijing on Tuesday (June 9) in a visit to boost ties between the two countries.
Dos Santos kicked off his six-day visit to China on Monday (June 8) at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Dos Santos and Xi inspected the guard of honour during a welcoming ceremony on Tuesday held by Xi outside the east gate of the Great Hall in the Chinese capital.
Dos Santos and Xi oversaw the signing of a series of agreements including economic, trade, financial cooperation by Angolan and Chinese delegations, followed by bilateral talks.
Later, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Dos Santos shook hands before sitting down for a bilateral meeting in the presence of delegates from countries.
China has strengthened its ties with Angola in recent years and the southern African country now sells around half of its 1.7 million barrels of daily oil output to Beijing.
Beijing has issued several oil-backed loans to Angola dating back to 2003, a year after the African nation emerged from a 27-year civil war. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
