- Story Text: Gunmen on motorcycles shot dead four policemen in Pakistan's western city of Quetta on Thursday (June 11) making it the deadliest week for the force in the city for nearly two years.
The shootings took place in the Pashtunabad neighborhood, as the officers were conducting a patrol in their vehicle.
One officer got down from the police pickup and tried to retaliate, but was killed on the spot, officials said.
Four police were also killed in the same Pashtoonabad area of Quetta on Saturday (June 6).
The nuclear-armed nation of 190 million people is battling a Taliban insurgency, rising sectarian violence and violent criminal gangs. The poorly equipped and trained police are frequent targets.
Also on Thursday, in the northwest city of Peshawar, a Taliban suicide bomber killed two police and seriously wounded six when he crashed his explosive-laden motorcycle into a police motorcade.
"It seems that he was wearing a (suicide) jacket. The quantity is six to eight kg (kilograms) which they normally use. It was six to eight kg of high quality explosives," said Senior police official Shafqat Malik.
Four senior police have also been killed this month in the southern port city of Karachi. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
