- Story Text: A plane carrying politicians from Yemen's powerful Shi'ite Houthi movement and their allies, loyalists of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, departed the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Sunday (June 14) heading to talks in Geneva aimed at bringing peace to a country torn by conflict.
Other political figures, including representatives of southern Yemen secessionists, were also on the plane.
The peace talks were originally scheduled for last month, but were postponed to this weekend after the main warring parties failed to agree on the terms of the talks.
Ahead of the formal launch of the talks set for Monday (June 15), Ban Ki-moon and the UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, met with ambassadors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including GCC secretary General Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and the so called Group of 16, which include ambassadors from 18 different countries. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
