- Story Text: Rock star Alice Cooper has paid tribute to actor Christopher Lee who died aged 93.
Speaking at the Kerrang awards in London Cooper said: "Christopher, we crossed paths a million times, we even played golf together, which was a strange thing, Alice Cooper and Christopher Lee playing golf together, how weird was that. And then you think about the guy's in the same league as Vincent Price and Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, you're talking about very few guys that you can name in that category that did it, and he did it til he was 93, I mean come on, how good is that."
Lee, who devoted his long career to portraying horror film villains and later appeared in the blockbuster "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings" series, died last Sunday in hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for respiratory problems, British media reports said. Lee's agent, in an emailed statement, said his family "wishes to make no comment".
The London-born actor achieved fame from the late 1950s into the 1970s playing characters such as Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and the Mummy for Hammer Films.
Lee also had a well-know love of heavy metal, as Cooper explained, and had recorded his own albums.
"I mean just all around he (Lee) makes heavy metal albums, I mean how cool is that! Nothing cooler than that. I called him up one time and I said 'I need you to do a talkover on this thing' and he says 'I can't do it', he says 'I am making a metal album in Germany'. And I went....said that's a really horrible excuse because I know you're not doing that and he said 'No I am!' and he was!," Cooper said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
