  • Story Text: Fourteen films are expected to compete for the "Golden Goblet" main prize of the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival as the president of jury said on Sunday (June 14) that art was the only standard for them to choose the best film.
    Competition finalists of the "Golden Goblet" include 14 films from across the world such as "Cake" directed by American Daniel Barnz, Poland's director Jacek Lusinski's "Carte Blanche", "The Duchess of Warsaw Jameh Daran", directed by French Joseph Morder etc.
    Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev, who is famous for his controversial Oscar-nominated film "Leviathan", was selected as president of this year's Golden Goblet jury, which is made up of 7 members who are directors, producers and actors.
    "Good morning everyone, just now I have already met my fellow judges and had a conference. From now on, we will start our work to judge films. We got a basic idea on our schedule. It will be hard work because we may have different opinions about what is the best movie but our job is to work together and to award the best film and the best acting from the movies presented this year and hopefully we are going to be able to see the best art out of all the movies from Shanghai International Film Festival this year," Zvyagintsev told media at a news conference in Shanghai.
    "During the three years of producing the movie, I thought about a lot including politics. As I mentioned in my speech yesterday at the opening ceremony of Shanghai International Film Festival, I think the the most important standard for me is art. That will be the most important standard for me when choosing the best movie this year," the Russian director said, referring to his film "Leviathan".
    The result of "Golden Goblet" prize will be announced on June 21.
    The 18th Shanghai International Film Festival kicked off on Saturday (June 13) with Mike Tyson, Jackie Chan and Aaron Kwok walking the red carpet at the opening ceremony.
    The visiting celebrities will also participate in a range of film industry activities during the festival which is scheduled to last through to June 21.
