- Story Text: Bundesliga club Schalke 04 presented their new coach Andre Breitenreiter to reporters on Monday (June 15).
He takes over the top job less than a month after Roberto Di Matteo left the club when a difference of opinion over plans for next season made it impossible for him to see out the remainder of his contract to 2017.
Breitenreiter, who comes from SC Paderborn, said he saw the task for the coming season as "a great challenge."
"I am so happy and also proud to be able to train a club like FC Schalke 04. It is a great challenge, of course. But it is also an opportunity for me and for the club. We are convinced that we can go in this direction in order to become a unit again and to get the fans back on board, to bring a game plan to the pitch and with a certain warm-up time, to portray onto the team, that this game will once again see the type of soccer at Schalke that everybody wants to see," he told reporters in Gelsenkirchen.
Breitenreiter joins the club after a domestic season with Schalke finishing sixth in the Bundesliga and playing in the Europa League next season.
But, he said, he was ready to bring the team together again and fight during the upcoming season.
"I bring a lot of motivation and ambition. I also personally want to go this next step in my career and I think that the discussions here have shown me that I have the best conditions in the team. I am a team player and we want to work together successfully," he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
