U.S. Secretary of State John said he did not want to see the relations with the Russia revert to "cold war status" as he discussed President Vladimir Putin's announcement about adding 40 new intercontinental ballistic missiles to Moscow's nuclear arsenal on Tuesday (June 16).
Kerry said Putin's stance could be posturing but added, "Nobody wants to see us step backwards. Nobody wants to, I think, go back to a Cold War status.
Kerry also said he had discussed Syria's use of chemical weapons with Russia and that efforts were under way to stop it.
Kerry said he was confident the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was responsible for a "preponderance" of chemical attacks and that "everyone's patience is wearing thin."
He told reporters that he had spoken with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and said the United States was working on a number of efforts to address it. - Copyright Holder: STATE DEPARTMENT TV
