- Story Text: Thailand will be aiming to upset the 2003 and 2007 Women's World Cup champions Germany in their crucial Group B match in Winnipeg on Monday (June 15).
Thailand, playing in their first World Cup, come into the match having lost to Norway in their opening match but then beat the Ivory Coast 3-2, meaning a win for the Thais against Germany would guarantee them a place in the quarter-finals.
They trained at the Winnipeg Stadium on Sunday (June 14) and will be looking to their goalscorers from the Ivory Coast match, Orathai Srimanee and Thanatta Chawong, to help cause a major upset.
Germany, the 2003 and 2007 champions, thumped Ivory Coast 10-0 in their opening match but were then held to a 1-1 draw by Norway in their second match so a draw will be enough to see them through and may also be enough for Thailand to qualify as well.
The top two teams from the group automatically qualify for the quarter-finals along with the four best third-placed teams from the six groups. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
