- Story Text: Corporate executives and Russian leaders headed to Russia's second-biggest city of St. Petersburg to attend the annual International Economic Forum that started on Thursday (June 18).
Few high-profile American CEOs and a number of chief executives of some European countries are attending the event this year. However, many American and European companies are trying to limit their presence, looking instead to meet with Russian counterparts on the sidelines.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will welcome a number of former European leaders with whom he has developed ties, including former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.
Putin will also give an address along with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday (June 19). Tsipras arrived in Russia for talks with Putin and other officials as time is running out for Athens to reach a reform-for-aid deal with its international creditors. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
