- Story Text: Fox Searchlight has released a trailer for "He Named Me Malala," an upcoming documentary feature film on the life of 2014 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai.
The film, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, gives an insider's portrait of Yousafzai, who has become a global champion of education rights for women. In 2012, the then-15-year-old Pakistani school girl was was seriously wounded in a shooting by Pakistani Taliban militants, who targeted for her campaign against Taliban efforts to deny girls education.
Since then, Malala has become a symbol of defiance in the fight against militants operating in ethnic Pashtun areas in northwest Pakistan. She has met various world leaders, including U.S. president Barack Obama and Britain's Queen Elizabeth, addressed the United Nations, and at 17 became the youngest person in history to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, in 2014. She turns 18 on July 12.
