- Story Text: German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Monday (June 22) that a deal with Iran was possible within days if Tehran "strictly sticks to the Lausanne key points in its negotiations and not make additions or remove anything which was agreed there."
Speaking after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Luxembourg, Steinmeier told reporters "we are at the beginning of a very decisive period, I hope a period which in a few days will come to the conclusion of negotiations which have kept the international community busy and concerned for more than 10 years."
Asked about the chances of an agreement with Tehran, Steinmeier said "I believe it's possible, but it requires Iran to continue to negotiate constructively and not to try to carry out any evasive manoeuvres on the final stretch."
"We foreign ministers are in any case preparing ourselves to go into a final round of negotiations with Iran within a very short period of time."
Iran and the powers -- the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany -- are trying to reach a settlement by June 30 under which Iran would curb its nuclear programme in exchange for relief from economic sanctions. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
