- Story Text: Brazilian great-great grandmother, Maria Gomes Valentim, recognized as the world's oldest living person by the Guinness World Records, died on Tuesday (June 21) at the age of 114, only a few days before turning 115 years old.
According to her family, Valentim, whose birthday was on the 9th of July, was hospitalized with pneumonia on Sunday (June 19) and died at daybreak on Tuesday.
She was crowned as the world's oldest living person in late May, but only held the title for a few weeks.
Born in 1896, when Queen Victoria was still on the throne of England , Valentim, better known as Granny Quita, had lived her entire life in the small town of Carangola in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.
According to Guiness officials, 99 percent of cases in which people claim to live past 115 years turn out to be false or undocumented. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
