- Story Text: Russian army held a tank biathlon competition on Monday (June 22) in Russia's Volgograd region in the south of the country.
Tank biathlon is a military discipline invented by Russia's Defence Ministry to train the skills of tank crews.
Tank and infantry crews took part in the exercise on their own military vehicles that they drove from their army units.
"At the moment, the final stage of the army competition is being held at Prudboy training range in South Military District. Afterwards the best crews of the army will be chosen to represent (Russia) at the international games in August," main judge of the competition, Aleksander Peryazev, said.
During the tank biathlon competition tanks drove manoeuvring on muddy tracks of the Prudboy training range. Some tanks trudged through a bumpy field and waterways, getting mud caked into their tracks, while several other tanks were also seen firing at targets.
Tank crews showed off their skills by shooting at long-range targets.
The competition in Volgograd region will determine Russia's best combat crew that will participate in the world tank biathlon championships which will be held in August near Moscow. Tank crews from 24 countries are expected to take part. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
