- Story Text: From high definition projection screens to high performance vehicles, the wide range of stuff on display at the Stuff Magazine show in London this weekend (November 2-4) is designed to get gadget lovers' hearts racing.
Stuff editor-in-chief Tom Dunmore says "the Stuff show is really the place to come if you like gadgets," pointing to the world's biggest plasma screen and Nokia's new N810 mobile internet tablet as a couple of the most intriguing items on display.
Nokia's manager of multimedia convergence products Phil Mott says the world's largest maker of mobile handsets is hoping to move into a new market with its latest device.
"The concept behind this device really is about having a desktop class internet experience that still fits in your pocket," says Mott.
The customary question for device manufacturers these days is how their gadgets will stack up against the iPhone. While Nokia's latest device doesn't even bother including a phone, there are a few unlikely looking handsets on display. The bulky "brick" phone that was state of the art in the 1980s, for instance.
The head of envirofone.com Robert Fox, says he set up shop at the Stuff show to remind people to recycle their old phones, and give them a chance to earn some money in the process.
"Every year people in the UK are buying a new mobile phone, 20 to 30 million are sold just in the UK, so think about that worldwide," says Fox, adding "what we're doing is asking people give us your old phone for cash at envirofone.com and we'll recycle and reuse it and you'll get money for it. Simple as that."
Some retailers are showing off the latest ideas in clothing, from a fitted sleeping bag that looks like a puffy body suit to inflatable trousers that create the appearance of riding a horse. It goes without saying that some "stuff" is not for everyone. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
