- Date: 10th July 2011
- Summary: SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (JULY 9, 2011) (POOL - CAN SELL) ROYAL COUPLE . DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE, WALKING INTO LUNCHEON VARIOUS OF COUPLE ON STAGE (SOUNDBITE) (English) PRINCE WILLIAM, SAYING: "Thank you very much for the warm welcome and to the Ambassador (Glen Holden, former US Ambassador to Jamaica). In terms of a returned fixture, it completely depends on the results today. I'm not a good loser. I was extremely delighted when Ambassador Holden asked me to play polo here, at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club. It has to be one of the most beautiful polo grounds anywhere in the world. As a keen polo player, it's also an honour for me to celebrate with you this afternoon this famous Club's one hundredth birthday. My father, the Prince of Wales, and my brother, Harry, were as green as that grass outside when I told them I'd be here. Catherine and I have had a busy few days - so the prospect of being able to let loose this afternoon is wonderful for me. But that's what sport is all about, be it polo or football, sorry, I mean soccer or whatever your preferred sport is. Sport, more specifically how sport helps young people to find purpose in life - is a key element to the Foundation that Catherine, Harry and I have established. We are focusing on helping military veterans and their families; and, following my father's example, working on sustainable development. We also want to give the most disadvantaged young in society hope and confidence in their lives. We feel very passionately about this. But today is about Santa Barbara Polo - a hundred glorious years. Thank you Ambassador Holden. Thank you Tiffany's for the beautiful Foundation Cup which I will be picking up later. Here's to the next century and a very happy birthday, thank you." VARIOUS OF COUPLE WALKING OFF STAGE

- Story Text: The Duke of Cambridge addressed guests at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club before the planned charity polo match that he was scheduled to participate in. Prince William joked that he is a sore loser and plans to take home the tournament trophy.
He also talked about having some time to enjoy the southern California sun during a busy trip and the jealousy the trip engendered within his family.
"My father, the Prince of Wales, and my brother, Harry, were as green as that grass outside when I told them I'd be here. Catherine and I have had a busy few days - so the prospect of being able to let loose this afternoon is wonderful for me. But that's what sport is all about, be it polo or football, sorry, I mean soccer or whatever your preferred sport is," said William.
The polo match will raise money for American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, which assists at-risk youth and other disadvantaged adolescents and young adults.
After the polo events, the royal couple will head back to Los Angeles for a black tie gala put on by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
