- Story Text: Pride London (an annual event organised by the city's LGBT (lebian/gay/bisexual/transgender) outshone terror threats, as crowds continued their revels and paraded through the
city centre on Saturday (June 30, 2007).
The parade ran close to where police had foiled the plot to detonate a car bomb in London's Haymarket on Friday (June29).
There had been concerns that the parade may have been cancelled due to insufficient security.
However, revellers and Londoners appeared largely unperturbed, going about their business as usual.
"You can't change your life because of the threat of terrorism otherwise they've won, haven't they? So you got to carry on. I'm obviously particularly concerned because I've got my children with me but life's got to carry on. It's definitely a worry," Said Tony Goodwin.
Another lesbian and gay pride parader added that "he is just going to go on whatever [happens]."
Plans for policing of public events in the coming 10 days were reviewed to ensure public security, including this parade, the Wimbledon tennis tournament and a concert for Princess Diana on Sunday (July 1). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
