- Story Text: Hundreds of Brazilian fans began to arrive on Sunday (June 20) at the popular Alzira Brandao street, better known as Alzirao, to cheer for their national squad ahead of their World Cup match against Ivory Coast.
Located in the heart of Rio's violent north zone, Alzirao has become one of the city's most popular venues to watch World Cup games.
Organizers, who have set up a huge screen at one of the street's ends, expect 30,000 supporters to turn up for Sunday's match.
Most fans seemed hopeful and guessed Brazil would win by two or three goals against their African rivals.
Under the hot sun, a samba school's drums corpse and dancing beauty queens helped the crowd get in the mood for the game.
Police stepped up security in the area, which is surrounded by violent slums. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
