- Story Text: Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque hosted his Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Malki on Thursday (February 26) in Havana, where the two allies expressed their solidarity with each other.
At a meeting, Perez Roque expressed his outrage at Israel's recent military offensive against Hamas Islamists in the Gaza Strip
"We confirm our condemnation against the Israeli military's aggression against Gaza and the forceful military occupation of the Palestinian territory," said Perez Roque.
The 22-day offensive cost 1,300 Palestinian lives versus 13 Israelis killed and had massive Israeli public support.
Riyad al-Malki expressed his country's regard for Cuba and criticized the U.S. embargo.
"Our complete solidarity is with Cuba-- Cuba, the revolution; Cuba, the government; Cuba, the Party; Cuba, the people-- and against with the blockade (U.S. embargo) against Cuba!" he said.
Washington has maintained an economic embargo against Havana for four decades. Since the beginning of the year, a number of Latin American presidents have traveled to Cuba and condemned the embargo.
Earlier in the day, Al-Malki joined Cuban officials at a ceremony honoring Cuban revolutionary hero Jose Marti before speaking of the strained relations with Israel in the wake of the recent offensive in Gaza. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
