- Story Text: India's Interior Minister, Amit Shah, on Sunday (June 28), said that the country has managed COVID-19 crisis better than the rest of the world, a day after the positive cases in the country crossed half-a-million mark.
Shah quoted the ratio of positive cases in India per million population which stands at 357 as compared to the global average of 1,250 and improvement of recovery rate that stands at 57 percent. He also said as compared to the global death rate of 63.2 per million population India's death the rate stands at 11.
India is currently the fourth worst affected country in the world in terms of total positive cases of coronavirus, with a total of 528,859 cases, including 203,051 active cases, 309,713 cured, discharged, or migrated and 16,095 deaths.
India recorded 410 deaths and highest single-day spike of 19,906 new COVID19 cases in the last 24 hours, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The interior minister added that his government is aware of the gravity of economic slowdown and they have introduced a series of reforms keeping in mind the post-COVID19 era.
"The government has made immense economic reforms during the coronavirus phase, whether it is in the coal sector, mining sector, electricity, industrial policy reforms, banking sector reforms," said Shah in a conversation with Reuters partner ANI.
Shah also talked at length about the medical preparations in Delhi, the worst affected city in India by the deadly virus.
