- Story Text: Family members of the victims of a rehab center massacre in central Mexico paid their final respects to their slain loved ones on Friday (July 3), demanding justice be done in the violence-ravaged country.
On Wednesday (July 1), gunmen entered a rehab house located on the outskirts of the city of Irapuato. According to reports, attackers shot every male. At least 26 people died and five people were injured.
The attack was one of the worst mass slayings since President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador took office 19 months ago pledging to reduce record levels of violence. But homicides hit a new record last year and are trending higher still in 2020.
No motive was given in the rehab center attack, but Gov. Diego Sinhue RodrÃguez Vallejo said drug gangs appeared to have been involved.
