- Story Text: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (July 3) said the age of expansionism is over and a new era of development is upon us, in a veiled attack on China.
Modi flew into the northern Himalayan region of Ladakh, weeks after Indian and Chinese troops clashed on their disputed border there, escalating tension between the Asian giants.
"The whole world has made up their minds against expansionism. Today the world is dedicated to development and is welcoming the open competitiveness of development," Modi said during his address to the soldiers stationed at a base in Ladakh's Nimu area.
Modi said his government had increased expenditure on development of border infrastructure by three times, adding that the construction of roads and bridges has been ramped up.
India and China have traded blame for triggering the high-altitude brawl in the Galwan Valley on June 15, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and at least 76 were injured.
China has not disclosed how many casualties its troops suffered.
The nuclear-armed neighbors have amassed troops along the border, most of which remains disputed, and military and diplomatic talks are going on to de-escalate the confrontation. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
