- Story Text: India's southern state of Kerala re-imposed stringent lockdown in its capital city of Thiruvananthapuram for one week on Monday (July 06).
The shutdown comes after the city recorded a sudden jump of COVI-19 cases on Sunday (July 05), which the state said were infected through the local transmission. The state is witnessing jump from unknown sources of infections, posing a threat of community transmission.
The shutdown is a triple lockdown with multi-layered surveillance and a different set of rules for all districts, hotspots, and at the houses of primary and secondary contacts of COVID-19 patients, for room quarantine.
Essential services would remain open, but there would be only one grocery shop open in one area on a given day.
Kerala has fared well on the coronavirus front as compared to rest of India however yesterday's spike was the second-highest ever, which has become a cause of concern for the authorities. The state currently has 2,228 active cases. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
