- Story Text: An India startup has designed low-cost ventilators quintessentially for COVID-19 patients as the country is battling the pandemic and a shortage of critical medical supplies.
The government-funded AgVa Healthcare Company based in Noida city near New Delhi has made indigenous cost-effective ventilators for the patients at the Intensive Care Unit fighting the respiratory disease.
"A normal ventilator costs around 10-15 lakh rupees (13,364 - 20,047 $), but ours is only for 1.5 lakh (2,004 $)," said the co-founder of the AgVa Healthcare ventilators, Diwakar Vaish on Tuesday (July 07).
India, with a population of roughly 1.3 billion, likely has around 30,000-50,000 ventilators, according to an estimate by research group Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy (CDDEP).
Various groups across India, including its top carmakers, are also assessing ways to manufacture low-cost ventilators to battle the deadly virus that also already claimed the lives of over 20,000 people. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
